DMC Strategies

Since I jump from one game to another and I don't want to end up forgetting what I learn, I've decided to start writing them down. This is my space to take notes of all and any strategies I come up with and those I find on the web (with credits). A lot of it won't be new to players of the series, but the point was for me to have them all in one place :]

DMC3 Royalguard

This little guide will cover all the difficulties as I play through on the HD vers. of the Special Edition, so updates will be slow if I'm unable to make progress (as I am in no way a pro).
Amidst all the RG guides already existent on the Web, I wanted one that detailed timings for every ennemy moves.

Note: To avoid repetition, new moves that ennemies gain in higher modes will be added while keeping in mind that they will still perform lower difficulty attacks.

Royalguard, or RG for short, consists of 5 moves. Block & Charge, or Just Guard when timed perfectly, Air Block, Release, or Perfect Release when timed perfectly, Air Release and Ultimate. It's necessary to note that blocks can be broken by higher demons and bosses.

A big part of nailing the timing with RG is to pay attention to sound effects and visual hints. Ennemies will often signal your cue to block with a grunt or noise. Others will make it easy to tell by doing a specific animation preceeding one of their attacks. After that, all you need is to memorize it and practice.

1st Hell: Pride

The lowest of the low ranked demons. They're extremely easy to deal with on their own but it becomes tricky when they swarm you since their simultanious uncoordinated attacks can sometimes throw off your rythm. Try not to get surrounded.

Easy/Normal

Scythe attack: They swing their weapon in an arc above their head. Block: They have the ability to block your attack (flashes blue and metal striking metal sfx), but is easily broken by[]

Hard

Reaping attack: They brandish their weapon in an arc around them, leaning back and swinging forward in a reaping motion.

7th Hell: Lust

Hard to pin down, these enemies move fast and constantly, going in and out of your field of view. Audio cues are favoured instead of relying on vision.

Easy/Normal

Dash attack: They backflip and dash towards their target. The distance they dash from varies but it has a limit therefore, if far enough, the attack can end without making contact with the player. As unpredictable as they seem, they only ever attack after backflipping. After their flip, your cue to block would be to do it right before impact. Even without seeing them, the timing should be a bit after they screeched.
